Mizoho is a mobile app for sole traders and freelancers who need to log what they earn and what they spend. Below are the questions we receive most often, answered plainly. If something is missing, the contact page is the quickest way to reach us.
The app is built for people who work for themselves: sole traders, freelance designers, tradespeople, drivers, tutors, photographers and similar. These users usually have irregular payments from several clients, and a mix of business and personal spending on the same card.
It is not a payroll tool and it is not aimed at limited companies with a finance department. The features are kept narrow on purpose: record income, record costs, group them, and export the totals when you need them.
Open the app, tap the add button, enter the amount, choose a category and save. That is four steps and usually takes under fifteen seconds. You can also photograph a receipt and attach it to the entry, so the paper copy can be thrown away once the image is stored.
Entries made without a signal are kept on the phone and synchronised when the connection returns, so a train journey or a site with poor coverage does not lose anything.
It can organise the figures you will need. Income and expenses are totalled by tax year, which in the UK runs from 6 April to 5 April, and the totals can be exported as a spreadsheet or a PDF summary. Categories follow the headings commonly seen on the self-employment pages of the return, such as travel, office costs and professional fees.
The app does not file anything on your behalf and does not give tax advice. The figures are a record to work from; if you are unsure how a particular cost should be treated, ask a qualified accountant.
Each payment is logged with its date, the client name and an optional invoice reference. The monthly view shows what came in against what went out, so a quiet month is visible next to a busy one rather than hidden inside a yearly average.
You can also mark an invoice as sent but unpaid. Those amounts appear in a separate list and are not counted as income until you confirm the money has arrived. This keeps the totals honest when a client pays late.
Your entries are stored in your own account and are not sold or shared with advertisers. Data is encrypted while it travels between your phone and our servers, and you can protect the app itself with a PIN or the fingerprint and face unlock built into your device.
You can export everything you have entered, and you can ask us to delete your account and the records attached to it. The details are set out in the privacy policy, which we recommend reading before you start.
We offer two paid options alongside the app. A one-off onboarding session, where we set up your categories, import past records and walk through the monthly routine, costs £150. A fuller package, which adds a review of your first quarter of entries and a tidy-up of anything miscategorised, costs £400.
Both are optional. Many people install the app and manage on their own. The services page lists what each option includes so you can compare them before getting in touch.
Yes. The app accepts a CSV file with columns for date, description, amount and category. If your spreadsheet uses different column names, the import screen lets you match them by hand before anything is saved, and a preview shows the first rows so you can catch mistakes early.
Bank statement files in CSV form can be imported in the same way. Duplicate entries are flagged rather than silently added, which helps when two files overlap by a few days.
We aim to reply to every message within 24 hours. Our office in Leeds is open Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 16:30 and on Saturday from 09:30 to 15:00; it is closed on Sunday. A message sent on a Sunday will be picked up on Monday morning.
Include the phone model, the app version shown in the settings screen and a short description of what happened. With those three details most problems can be diagnosed in a single reply. You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by phone on +44 113 824 5917.
A short reference for the main record types, so you know what to enter and where it ends up in your exports.
| Record type | What you enter | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Income | Date, amount, client name, optional invoice reference | Monthly view, tax-year total, spreadsheet export |
| Expense | Date, amount, category, optional receipt photo | Monthly view, category breakdown, PDF summary |
| Unpaid invoice | Date sent, amount, client name, due date | Outstanding list only, until marked as paid |
| Mileage | Date, distance in miles, purpose of the trip | Travel category and the tax-year total |
